for example: maybe you're a patreon subscriber of sliceoflifevr and you want to figure out how to get the video onto your quest, or maybe you have an iphone 15 pro and you took a spatial video and you want to play it on your quest.
download sidequest. https://sidequestvr.com/setup-howto
follow their instructions. (you don't need a sidequest account to transfer content.)
(note that you'll need to "allow" when your mac/windows asks about connecting to the device, and you'll also need to do allow on your oculus too.)
**if it's a spatial video taken on iphone 15 pro:** first, get the iphone app "spatialify". then export using spatialify.
in spatialify, i do browse spatial album, or batch export, and i use the setting "full side-by-side", and keep "horizontal disparity adjustment" set to on.
then airdrop that video to your mac.
then, use sidequest to upload the video into either your "Movies" folder or your "Download" folder on your quest.
**now, after you've transferred using sidequest, how can you find your sidequest movies on quest and watch them on the quest?**
then download the app "bigscreen" and use the "local player" option to watch it.
in the bottom right while it's playing in bigscreen, set the playback mode to use 180 3d.
(don't try and watch it in the quest tv app or the files browser, both of them won't work well if it's 3d)
**note that at first, quest 3 won't show up on macos or windows. it won't show in your finder. you need to use sidequest and follow their instructions, you won't be able to see it as a hard drive like a digital camera, you can only access it through sidequest.** so basically the best way to connect the oculus to the mac for data transfer is using sidequest.
files not showing up in the quest file browser? or files not showing up in the quest tv?
yes, happened to me too. use the app "bigscreen" and that'll work instead.
also, they didn't play in 3d in the quest files app and quest tv for me, but "bigscreen" will allow you to play in 3d.
so if you're trying to transfer spatialify videos to quest to watch them there, these are the steps you'd follow.
do you need to use mobile vr station? no. skip that, it was a waste of time for me.
do you need to get sidequest on quest itself? no, skip that. also a waste of time for me.
do you need a separate app for showing files and folders on quest? sort of, use the app bigscreen.
this is basically the steps i followed to get my spatial videos exported from iphone and playing on my quest, and also the steps i used to transfer mp4 files from sliceoflife vr's patreon to my quest to watch them.
(all of this stuff took me hours to troubleshoot and figure out, and even appending 'reddit' to my google searches failed me, so i've written it down here to help others)
